We want to hear what is important to you about local level crossings. Please feel free to share your thoughts and views in our community feedback form.

We will share this advice and feedback with the Level Crossing Removal Authority and Premier, Jacinta Allan. The local level crossings in the Mordialloc electorate are at Parkdale, Mordialloc, Aspendale, Edithvale and Chelsea.
-
The Victorian Government had committed to remove 50 level crossings by 2022 - and with 67 now gone, we're well ahead of schedule and we're now going to get rid of 104 level crossings by 2029.
-
The Allan Labor Government will now remove 27 level crossings from the Frankston Line by 2029, delivering more frequent services, improving safety and easing congestion - and making the Frankston line level crossing free. Mordialloc and Aspendale will be level crossing free and get new train stations in the coming years!
-
Early engineering assessments have informed preferred design options for each of these level crossing removals. This includes:
-
- McDonald Street, Mordialloc - Rail Bridge
- Station Street, Aspendale - Rail Bridge
- Groves Street, Aspendale - lowering the rail line under road.
- Wickham Road, Highett - Rail Bridge
- Highett Road, Highett - Rail Bridge
- Armstrongs Road, Seaford - Rail Bridge
- Station Street, Seaford - Rail Bridge
- Latrobe Street, Mentone (closure)
- Bear Street, Mordialloc (closure)
-
More than 51,000 vehicles travel over these level crossings each day – and during the morning peak, 43 trains pass through, leaving the boom gates down for up to 48 minutes.
-
Final designs will be released after detailed consultation and engagement with our local community and further site investigations.
-
As part of these level crossing removals, we will also build new trains stations at:
-
- Mordialloc
- Aspendale
- Highett
- Seaford
-
This will provide modern and safe facilities for passengers and by 2029, we will have 17 new stations delivered on the Frankston Line.
-
MORDIALLOC CROSSINGS:
-
The proximity to Mordialloc Creek means McDonald Street, Mordialloc and Station Street, Aspendale are also best removed with a rail bridge, with a new alignment likely for the road at Station Street in Aspendale.
-
Removing the McDonald Street level crossing will allow nearby Bear Street to be closed, so the rail bridge can return to ground level before the stabling yards near Mordialloc Station, avoiding the need to relocate them.
-
ASPENDALE CROSSINGS:
-
The preferred solution to remove the level crossing at Groves Street, Aspendale is to lower the rail line underneath the road. We will build a brand-new Aspendale Train Station.
-
HOW FAR WE HAVE COME
-
Labor committed to remove 50 level crossings by 2022! Today we have 67 level crossings gone for go and in the years ahead, Labor will deliver a level crossing free Frankston train line!
-
And the Metro Tunnel will also deliver more capacity for the Frankston Line when it opens in 2025 and removing level crossings is critical to ensuring we can run more trains, more often across the network.
-
I know this will be a lot to take in and we will be there to answer your questions, hear your thoughts and views, to make our community safer for our kids and community into the future and get the absolute best open space outcomes for the future.
